Springwood Walks

King's Walk
This walk follows the River Teviot round the edge of the King's Haugh Field. The large stone building is a mausoleum and contains the remains of the Scott Douglas's who once owned Springwood Estate. It was built in the 1820's at the same time as the Springwood Gates which are situated near Kelso Bridge. The field overlooks the ruins of Roxburgh Castle, once one of Scotland's biggest castles. The path adjacent to the wooded bank follows the route of the "tradesman's entrance" to the mansion which once stood where the reception is now. The field edge is cut grass and the walk is a about one mile long.

River Walk
This walk is through the mature wooded banks of the River Teviot and is a pleasant stroll. You can walk to the end of the river path (approx. 1.7miles) or turn left towards the Railway walk where sign posted. This connects back to the caravan park or allows access to the old railway.

Railway
The Railway Road takes you to the viaduct at Roxburgh. Continue straight along the railway until you meet a tar road and turn right to connect with the footpath over the viaduct. When in Roxburgh Village turn right heading down river. As you leave Roxburgh, continue for about 200metres and climb a fence on your right to gain access to the river bank via a field. This is sign posted with faded arrows. Continue along the river, passing Roxburgh Castle and eventually back to Springwood via Teviot Bridge. This is a bit of hike and is uneven. About four miles long.

Kelso
One mile from the Estate entrance. Follow the tar pavement past the famous junction salmon pool, on to Rennie's Kelso Bridge and into Kelso.

Responsible Access
Please observe 'The Country Code'. It is not safe to enter fields with cattle or horses. Dogs must be kept on a lead at all times and it is an offence not to clean up after your dog in Scotland.
